We at Urban Wellness offer comprehensive support for you before, during and after your cancer treatment.

We understand that your health and recovery are of primary concern during these times. Acupuncture has proven to be an effective and safe choice in managing many of the side effects of chemotherapy, radiation and medication.

Studies have shown that, for many patients, treatment with acupuncture can relieve symptoms and keep them from getting worse.

According to the National Cancer Institute Acupuncture has proven to be good in helping with side effects such as:

  • Pain
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Weight loss
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Poor appetite
  • Dry mouth/xerstoma
  • Cough
  • Hot flashes
  • Nerve problems/neuropathy
  • Constipation and diarrhea

Acupuncture can be a safe and simple way of boosting physical responses in nerve cells, the pituitary gland, and parts of the brain. Acupuncture can also affect blood pressure and body temperature, boosts immune system activity, and causes the body’s natural painkillers, such as endorphins, to be released.

Here at Urban Wellness we care about your treatment plan and along with your health care team will work to find a protocol that is for your specific needs and concerns.  We can also be part of your continued wellness care once you are on the road to health.

Is it Safe

British Medical Journal released a meta-anylisis of acupuncture which reviewed over 32,000 acupuncture sessions and found acupuncture to be extremely safe when performed by a qualified practitioner. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC48133/?report=reader.

As in all acupuncture treatments, we use sterile, single use needles that are about the width of several hairs.  Insertion is relatively painless and retention time varies from 15-40 minutes depending on protocol.  Also to note, acupuncture needles are considered a medical device by the FDA and strict protocol  is followed as to their handling and disposal.

Acupuncture sessions can start immediately alongside or even before cancer treatment begins.  We also may offer home sessions if at any time you are unable to travel. Please call to discuss your specific needs.
