Fertility: It Takes Time, Part 1

October 7, 2020

How hard can it be?   Most of us were taught in health class that pregnancy was easy, so easy that we had to protect ourselves with vigilance.  And when we decide to get pregnant we scroll Facebook and find that friend who got pregnant in a month.

That belief system is in our body.   Its supposed to be Easy.

It may be easy, but even so, it takes TIME.

Your chance of getting pregnant on any month is around 20-25%.   Even using an ovulation tracker and timing sex increases those changes to only around 30%.

That’s why most OB/GYN recommend a year of trying naturally as the usual course of action before seeking other options.

And that’s not including hormonal shifts that might happen when coming off of the pill, stress factors, (Stress can be huge in fertility) and other detours of modern life.

About 60-70% of my practice is fertility.  Here’s what I tell first time patients:

  1. Get a check up.  Make sure everything is in working order, hormone levels etc.

  2. Stop comparing yourself to everyone else.

  3. Stop ‘checking the mail’ everyday.  Meaning forget about it.  Just have fun.

  4. Get weekly acupuncture if possible.

The difference acupuncture makes:

Physically, it helps with blood flow to uterus, hormone balance, and most important, triggering the parasympathetic nervous system; our super relaxed, “feed and breed” state.

The nervous system and fertility is just starting to be studied more in depth, but after doing thousands of fertility treatments, I’ve seen it work wonders balancing out the body and successful pregnancy happen quicker.

Most of us really don’t realize how much stress plays a factor, especially if you live in a large city like Manhattan.

Additionally, acupuncture can help hook you up to the emotional aspect of being a mom.

And spiritually it places you in a heart space to receive whomever wants to bless you with their presence in your new family. :-)
